Olivia O'Connor

​Wood Carver, Rocking Horse connoisseur, artist & educator...

​

Olivia O’Connor is a woodcarver and printmaker whose work reflects her search for home and belonging within the Australian landscape, whilst celebrating the awe, beauty, and calm of nature.
With a background in prop making and scenic artistry, Olivia’s journey led to a career as a rocking horse maker and restoration expert, developing skills vital in her artistic practice.


Her dedication to her practice has earned such recognition as, first place in the Neerim Bower Small Sculpture Prize, and finalist placements in the Toorak Sculpture Prize, Yering Sculpture Prize, and East Gippsland Art Gallery Works on Paper Prize. Olivia is proud to have work in public and private collections. She holds fellowships from the International Specialised Skills Institute and Artisans Guild of Australia.

Olivia O’Connor is also a skilled rocking horse maker and restorer, specialising in both traditional and modern restoration techniques.

With a background in prop making and scenic artistry from NIDA, Olivia transitioned from creating for theatre and film to carving out a successful career as a rocking horse artisan and restoration expert for more than a decade.

​Nestled amongst the rolling hills of South Gippsland, Olivia's studio serves as a sanctuary where nature's beauty continues to inspire her creations. Through her work, Olivia aims to evoke moments of awe and stillness, encouraging a thoughtful connection with the natural world.
