Raw Beginner Joinery with John Madden 6.00pm to 9.00pm Thursday evenings - join at any time The Wood Play Studio Level 2, 69 Charles Street Coburg 3058 Welcome to Raw Beginner, home of the new craftsperson. If you want to get into wood craft and are not sure where to start, then raw beginner is for you. What is Raw Beginner Joinery? Raw Beginner is for people who want to learn the fundamentals of wood craft. We assume that participants have no prior knowledge of wood craft thus the course is suitable for the absolute raw beginner. What happens in the class? Participants in this Raw Beginner Joinery class will learn to mark out and hand cut a series of classic woodworking joints using only hand tools including: • A Half Lap joint • A Mortise & Tenon joint • A Box Joint • And a Dovetail Joint. Participants will also learn about wood, how to read the grain, wood movement, what materials for which job and how to order them. The class will also cover basic hand tool sharpening techniques and safety. How long is the class? Raw Beginner Joinery with John Madden is a series of 4 x 3 hour classes held over 4 consecutive weeks. Each class starts at 6.00pm and concludes at 9.00pm. There is a maximum of 6 people in the class so you are assured to receive all the support you may need. You can work at your own pace throughout the class, refreshments are provided. And the great thing is that you can join this rolling workshop at any time. No need to wait until the next series of classes commence, just book some bench space and rock up. Do I need tools or equipment? All tools and materials are supplied. Wood Play Studio recommends all participants wear sturdy shoes and clothes suitable for woodworking. Participants in this class must be 18 years of age and well enough to stand for several hours at a time lifting 2kg with each arm. Who is John Madden John is an award-winning woodworker and designer who works with a range of materials including solid timber and composites. John is an experienced instructor who is passionate about sharing his knowledge and helping you develop your craft skills. Who is this class for? Whether you're a beginner who wants to get into craft, or a more experienced artist looking to explore a new medium, this class is for you! With the group you will explore the materials, tools, and safety precautions necessary for wood craft. Participants can move onto more challenging pieces as their skills develop.
