Are you interested in learning how to carve using a variety of tools including an axe, knife, hook knife and gouges? Then join Eli Beke in the Wood Play Studio and learn the basics of greenwood carving as you create your very own handmade cooking spoon!

 

What happens in the workshop?

 

This beginner's workshop takes you through the whole process of creating your very own wooden cooking spoon. Guided by Eli, you will start with by splitting a log of wood into a cooking spoon sized chunk and then working with hand tools such as an axe, a hook knife, a straight carving knife and a gouge you will create your very own cooking spoon chip by chip. You can work at your own pace throughout the workshop so there will be plenty of time to ask questions and learn the basics of greenwood carving. By the end of this workshop, you will have your own hand-carved cooking spoon ready to take home and use in the kitchen!

 

How long is the workshop?

 

Greenwood cooking spoon carving with Eli Beke starts at 9.00am Sunday September 22 and concludes at 5.00pm, a total of 8 hours including a one-hour break for lunch. There is a maximum of 8 people in the workshop so you are assured to receive all the support you may need. Participants should bring their own lunch, refreshments are provided.

 

Do I need tools or equipment?

 

All tools and materials are supplied. Wood Play Studio recommends all participants wear sturdy shoes and clothes suitable for woodworking. Participants in this workshop must be 18 years of age and well enough to stand for several hours at a time lifting 2kg with each arm.
