Are you interested in learning how to carve wood using an axe? Then join Eli Beke in the Wood Play Studio and learn the basics of greenwood axe carving as you create your very own handmade wooden spatula!
 
What happens in the workshop?
 
This beginner's workshop takes you through the whole process of creating your very own wooden spatula. Guided by Eli, you will start with a billet of timber that you will shape with an axe, removing larger chips and then refining the shape by making smaller and smaller chips using a Sloyd knife and a hook knife. You can work at your own pace throughout the workshop so there will be plenty of time to ask questions and learn the basics of greenwood carving. By the end of this workshop, you will have your own hand-carved spatula ready to take away and use in the kitchen!
 
How long is the workshop?
 
Greenwood spatula carving with Eli Beke starts at 1.00pm Saturday September 21 and concludes at 5.00pm, a total of 4 hours. There is a maximum of 8 people in the workshop so you are assured to receive all the support you may need. Refreshments are provided.
 
Do I need tools or equipment?
 
All tools and materials are supplied. Wood Play Studio recommends all participants wear sturdy shoes and clothes suitable for woodworking. Participants in this workshop must be 18 years of age and well enough to stand for several hours at a time lifting 2kg with each arm.
